Huddersfield Town were very disappointing in the Premier League last season and finished bottom of the table. Having survived the season before, hopes were high but they struggled badly and won only three of their thirty-eight matches.

The fans will be hoping Huddersfield Town can bounce straight back up to the Premier League but it is not going to be easy. They begin their Championship campaign on Monday night with a home game against potential promotion rivals Derby County.

Derby County lost in the playoff final last season and their manager, Frank Lampard, has left to join Chelsea. In an interesting move, former Barcelona midfielder Phillip Cocu is the new manager of the club.

Huddersfield Town have enjoyed a good preseason and won four and drawn two of their six friendly games. The Terriers have defeated Greuther Furth, Hamburg, Rochdale and Doncaster Rovers. They were also held to a draw by Greuther Furth and Montpellier, the latter of which was their final friendly match.

Trends show Huddersfield Town have failed to win any of their last five home competitive games. Last season in the Premier League, they won just two of their home matches and will need to see a significant improvement in they are going to push for promotion.

They kept just three clean sheets in nineteen home matches last season and cannot afford to concede goals with the same regularity in the Championship if they want to be in the race for the Premier League.

Derby County were bitterly disappointed to lose out to Aston Villa 2-1 in the playoff final. They came from 6th place in the final league table to beat 3rd place Leeds United but could not get over the final hurdle.

The Rams lost their final two friendly games of preseason, going down 2-0 against Girona and 1-0 against Glasgow Rangers. Prior to that, Derby County won three matches against Sarasota Metropolis, Bristol City and Burton Albion.

Derby County enjoyed a great run towards the end of last season, winning seven and drawing five of their last fifteen games, including the playoffs. Away from home trends show they won two and drawn two of their final four away Championship matches, with both teams scoring in three of those four games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Huddersfield Town have lost key midfielder Philip Billing to Bournemouth this summer. Isaac Mbenza has joined on a permanent deal and should start the game. He will be hoping to score plenty of goals in the Championship.

Derby County have been fairly quiet in the transfer market but have added Graeme Shinnie from Aberdeen on a permanent deal and Kieran Dowell from Everton on loan. The former should start this game, while Dowell may have to make do with a place on the bench.

This is another cracking fixture to end the first weekend of Championship action. The pressure will be on Huddersfield town who were in the Premier League last season buy Derby County did well away from home in Championship at the end of the campaign. We could see any away win with both teams scoring.
