Ghana With Work to Do in Group F

Ghana With Work to Do in Group F
2309

The final games of the group stages in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations will be played on the 2nd July and will feature the teams from Group F. This has been one of the tightest groups in the competition and bottom and top are separated by 3 points.

Guinea-Bissau are the sitting bottom of the table and they face Ghana at the Suez Stadium. Ghana come into the match sitting second on 2 points and know they need to win to ensure their place in the round of 16.

Guinea-Bissau have just 1 point to their name and only a win will do for them to stand a chance of progressing in the tournament. This has the makings of being one of the most exciting games of the group phase.

Guinea-Bissau started the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a tough game against the defending champions, Cameroon. They held out for 66 minutes before conceding the first goal.  The second goal followed quickly and Guinea-Bissau were 2-0 down and out of the game.

The following match against Benin presented The Djurtus with their best chance of picking up a win in the competition but they were held to a 0-0 draw. Trends show Guinea-Bissau have won just one of their last eleven games in all competition.  In fact, they have won just two of their last seventeen, which is a poor record.

Scoring goals has been a problem for Guinea-Bissau and they have failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five matches.

Ghana have left themselves with work to do following their opening group game against Benin. They fell behind only to score 2 goals and take the lead. However, a controversial red card saw The Black Stars reduced to ten men and Benin came back into the game to equalise and seal a point.

That saw Ghana go into the next game against Cameroon, which was always going to be difficult, needing to win. They managed to keep Cameroon at bay but could not find the breakthrough themselves and the match ended 0-0.

Trends show Ghana are undefeated in their last five matches and have lost just one of their last twelve. However, they have won only four of their last twelve games and have been held in each of their last three.

Team news and Guinea-Bissau could bring Zezinho back into the starting XI as he is their most experienced outfield player. Frédéric Mendy will be tasked with scoring the goals.

Ghana could be without Christian Atsu and that could mean a place in the team for Samuel Owusu. The Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan should keep their places in attack.

Guinea-Bissau have to do something they have never managed to do before and that’s win a game at the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Ghana have much the stronger team and should seal their place in the round of 16 with a win and a clean sheet.
