Will Finland’s KuPS heap more pressure on winless VPS?

Finland’s Veikkausliiga clubs VPS and KuPS will meet on Monday at Hietalahti. Both sides are seeking wins as the first third of the Veikkausliiga season nears its end.
Home side VPS are winless in 10 matches in league play this term. They have lost three straight matches in the league while being outscored 4-1 during that time.
VPS’s most recent defeat came at the hands of HIFK on the road. Vespi lost 2-1 but the final scoreline did flatter the visitors. VPS’s goal came in second-half stoppage-time as they were outplayed.
KuPS are also coming off of a loss in their last outing. The Canaries fell at home to SJK, 1-0. It was KuPS’s second loss in three games. Despite their suddenly downturn in form, KuPS have been very good in the early stages of the season.
The Canaries are just three points off of first place in the Veikkausliiga. Last season, KuPS finished third and there is no reason they cannot reach the top three once more.
Eight of KuPS’s 15 points this term have been obtained on the road. There most recent away fixture did end in defeat and manager Jani Honkavaara will aim to get his side back to winning ways at VPS.
KuPS are +1 in goal difference on the road having scored nine times in five matches on their travels. They average 1.8 goals per game away from home.
The Canaries have three players who have all tallied three goals apiece. Petteri Pennanen, Rangel, and Rasmus Karjalainen have combined for nine of KuPS’s 15 goals. The trio have accounted for 60% of the team’s scoring.
VPS, on the other hand, have posted a 0W-3D-2L home record. Their last three home matches all ended in under 2.5 goals tallied.
Manager Petri Vuorinen knows his side needs to score more goals to win matches. VPS have scored the third fewest goals in the league this term with just eight after 10 matches.
KuPS are undefeated in four of their last six matches in all competitions against VPS. Although four of those matches saw over 2.5 goals scored, the teams’ form in front of goal this season doesn’t bode well for a high goal return.
The Canaries will continue their great form against VPS as under 2.5 goals go into the nets. Expect VPS to struggle once more in front of goal as KuPS keep a clean sheet.
