Host nation Brazil will face Bolivia in Sao Paulo on Saturday in the opening match of the 2019 Copa America. Brazil are the favorites to win the tournament and will be eager to get their campaign off to a winning start.

Brazil come into the tournament on a great run of form. They have lost just 2 of their last 30 matches and are fresh from a 7-0 thrashing of Honduras.

Neymar has been ruled out for 4 weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in a recent friendly match against Qatar. He is likely to miss the majority of the tournament and may only feature if Brazil reach the latter stages of the competition.

Brazil will be hopeful that they can cope without their star man after five of their forwards found the net against Honduras. Gabriel Jesus, Coutinho, David Neres, Roberto Fimirno and Richarlison all scored in their previous match.

On the other hand, Bolivia have endured a dismal run of form which has seen them win just once since 2017. They have played 4 matches this year, losing 3 and drawing 1.

Bolivia won the Copa America way back in 1963 but have only managed to reach the final once since then. A 3-1 defeat to Brazil in the 1997 final was the closest La Verde have come to emulating the heroics of their famous 60’s team.

Unlike the majority of other South American nations, Bolivia don’t have any players plying their trade in Europe’s top leagues. Without any big-name stars, the squad must rely on togetherness and hard work if they are to stand any chance against Brazil.

The hosts’ squad however, is littered with household names and Tite has certainly made some bold decisions when it comes to his squad selection.

Marcelo, Douglas Costa, Lucas Moura, Fabinho, David Luiz and Willian are just a handful of big names that have been left out by Tite as he tries to find the right formula for success.

The head-to-head record between these two teams doesn’t look pretty for Bolivia. In their 29 meetings over the years, Brazil have won 20 times, with just 5 wins for Bolivia and 4 draws along the way.

The eight-time Copa America winners are the favorites coming into this match and it’s hard to envisage anything other than a Brazil win on Saturday.

Forebet predicts a comfortable win for Brazil in front of an expectant home crowd.
