New York RB to keep momentum going against Real Salt Lake

New York RB to keep momentum going against Real Salt Lake
1904

New York Red Bulls picked up a third win in four matches last weekend with a 2-0 win away at Cincinnati which lifted Saturday evening’s hosts up into 5th place on the Eastern Conference ladder and just 5 points adrift of Conference leaders, DC United, as we head into this weekend’s round of matches.

New York RB have collected recent wins against Dallas 3-1, Atlanta United 1-0 and Cincinnati as well as a point in a 2-2 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps, so they have a four-match unbeaten run coming into this clash with Western Conference outfit, Real Salt Lake.

New York have also improved their results at their Red Bull Arena in recent weeks too as the hosts have suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 5 matches on home turf which was a 2-1 loss to Montreal Impact, but wins against Cincinnati, LA Galaxy and Atlanta United should give them confidence in bagging all three points in this encounter.

The hosts may be without Wright-Phillips for this clash but White (3 goals) has filled in admirably up front.

Real Salt Lake’s 3-match winning streak came to an abrupt end during the week when they were handed a 2-1 loss away at Montreal Impact, and they have to hit the road again this Saturday when they make their way over to New York to face a solid Red Bulls outfit.

Recent wins over Colorado Rapids, Toronto and Atlanta united, the latter two being registered at their Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah looked like sending the visitors climbing up the Western Conference, but the loss at Montreal has taken them down a peg or too.

Real Salt Lake have captured 6 wins to date in the MLS so far this season, but 4 of these have been on home turf while wins at Cincinnati and Colorado Rapids on their travels this term, although very welcome, were against teams that are sitting bottom of the Eastern and Western Conferences respectively.

The visitors have also lost 5 of their 8 away matches to date which include defeats at DC United 5-0, Los Angeles 2-1, Seattle Sounders 1-0, LA Galaxy 2-1 and the aforementioned 2-1 loss at Montreal Impact, so confidence isn’t likely to be high in the Real Salt Lake camp here.

New York Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last 3 encounters at home to Real Salt Lake and they should get the job done here.
