Sao Paulo and Cruzeiro in Need of Win

Sao Paulo and Cruzeiro in Need of Win
2528

We are six games into the new Brazilian Serie A season and the table is beginning to take shape.

On Sunday 2nd June we have a match between 4th place Sao Paulo and 16th place Cruzeiro to enjoy at the Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo.

Both teams finished inside the top eight last season and qualified for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.  However, the hosts will be hoping to finish higher than 5th place this season.

Trends show São Paulo FC have been on a poor run of form having lost each of their last three games. Only one of those matches came in the Serie A and they lost 1-0 at Corinthians.  The other two defeats were at the hands of Bahia in the Copa do Brasil and Sao Paulo lost both legs of the tie 1-0.

One glance at their Serie A record shows Sao Paulo have lost only one of their last six games, all of which have been played this season.  Trends show they like playing at home and Sao Paulo have remained unbeaten in their last eight home league matches.

In fact, they have lost just one of their last twenty home Serie A games.  However, there have been just two wins in the last ten, with seven matches ending in a draw.  Defensively Sao Paulo have been good, keeping a clean sheet in four of their last five home games.

Cruzeiro travel to the Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo in bad form as they have failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions.  There have been four defeats and one draw, with three of the defeats coming in Serie A.

Trends show Cruzeiro have suffered three successive defeats in Serie A this season, with the losses coming at Internacional, Fluminense and at home against Chapecoense which was their last league game.

Away form is awful and Cruzeiro have won just one of their last seventeen away Serie A matches.  They have lost five and drawn one of their last six games on the road.  They have lost by 2 or more goals in each of their last three away matches and conceded 10 goals.

Looking ahead to the team news and Sao Paulo are definitely without the injured duo of Pablo and Joao Rojas who are not expected back until late June.  Liziero, Biro and Lucão are doubtful.

Cruzeiro have just one injury problem and Luis Manuel Orejuela will be on the treatment table for the next few months with a knee injury.

Given the away form of Cruzeiro, this looks like being a home win for Sao Paulo.  They should score a couple of goals and may even keep a clean sheet to pick up maximum points.
