Roma Need Miracle to Qualify for Champions League

We enter the final day of the Italian Serie A season and there is still much to decide in terms of the Champions League places.

The top four teams will qualify for the Champions League next season and as things stand that will see Juventus, Napoli, Atalanta and Inter Milan representing Italy in Europe’s premier club competition.

However, Roma host Parma on Sunday currently in 6th place and know they need to win the match by 4 clear goals and hope the teams above them lose their games. Parma have avoided relegation this season and can relax knowing their place in the top-flight is secure.

Roma come into this game having been held to a 0-0 draw at Sassuolo last weekend. It was a disappointing result despite the number of efforts Roma had on the home goal. Having defeated Juventus 2-0 at home the weekend before, Roma were expected to win the game and give themselves a good chance of finishing in the top four.

Trends show Roma are undefeated in their last eight Serie A games. They have been four wins and four draws, with three of the wins coming on home soil against Udinese, Cagliari and Juventus.

Roma have lost only one of their last thirteen home league matches and have scored at least once in each of those games. They have improved defensively and kept a clean sheet in each of their last three home matches.

Parma will be delighted to have kept their place in Serie A but will be very unhappy with recent form. They enjoyed a good run through the middle of September and into October but towards the end of the season they have been poor.

The win over Fiorentina at home last weekend was their first victory in their last ten Serie A games. It was enough to see them avoid relegation but there is no getting away from their struggle to win matches.

Trend show Parma have failed to win any of their last eight away Serie A games, losing four and drawing four. Scoring goals has not been a problem but conceding them has been an issue and Parma have seen both teams score in eight of their last nine away league games.

Team news and Roma are set to be without central defender Konstantinos Manolas and William Bianda. They are the only two casualties for Claudio Ranieri.

Parma on the other hand will be without the suspended Emanuele Calaio while Gervinho and Abdou Lahat Diakhatè are doubtful. Nicolás Schiappacasse is also expected to miss out.

This should be a great game to watch as Roma attack in the need of a big win. They should score goals but Parma will be threatening at the other end of the pitch. We could see a home win with both teams scoring and over 2.5 goals.
