Barcelona and Valencia Meet in Copa del Rey Final

The La Liga season has ended and Barcelona have been crowned champions. However, the Spanish season does not finish there and on Saturday we have the Copa del Rey final to enjoy. The match will be contested between Barcelona and Valencia at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, Seville.

This is an opportunity for Barcelona to win the league and cup double in Spain this season. They will be disappointed not to be playing in the Champions League final but that means all focus will be on this match.

Valencia sealed a place in the Champions League next season by finishing in 4th place in La Liga. They will want to end the season on a high by lifting a trophy.

Barcelona were not required to win their final games of the season as they had already claimed the title. They were held to a 2-2 draw at Eibar on the final day but finished 11 points clear at the top of the league.

The major disappointment was the 4-0 loss at Liverpool in the Champions League and that really hurt the club.

Barcelona have played eight games in the Copa del Rey this season, winning five, drawing one and losing two. Each round is played over two legs and Barcelona have knocked out Cultural Leonesa, Levante, Sevilla and Real Madrid.

The 3-0 win at Real Madrid in the semi-final was the pick of the results in addition to the 6-1 home win over Sevilla in the quarter-final.

Valencia ended their La Liga campaign strongly as they won each of their last three matches to seal a Champions League qualifying position. Valencia defeated Huesca and Real Valladolid away and Deportivo Alaves at home.

Their only defeats in their last five games came in the Europa League semi-final against Arsenal and Valencia lost both legs of the tie.

Valencia have an identical record to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey this season, winning five, drawing one and losing two. They have defeated Ebro, Sporting Gijon, Getafe and Real Betis to reach the final.

Valencia had arguably the easiest route to the final, with the quarter-final against Getafe their toughest test.

Looking ahead to the team news and Barcelona have a few players missing for this game. Philippe Coutinho, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele are injured.  There also doubts over the fitness of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Nelson Semedo and Arthur.

Valencia will be without Denis Cheryshev who has a knee injury and central defender Ezequiel Garay is doubtful. Every other player should be fit and available.

Both matches between the teams in La Liga ended in a draw this season so we could be in for a close game. Barcelona have a few injury problems but with Lionel Messi in attack, they have the one man who can make the difference. Barcelona should come out on top to lift the Copa del Rey.
