Javi Gracia’s Watford head into their season finale against West Ham losers of their last two games.
The Hornets need a positive showing against West Ham on Sunday to build momentum for the FA Cup Final on May 18th against Manchester City.
Watford have won just once since defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup semifinal and will be gunning for a victory at Vicarage Road.
West Ham go into the game having defeated Southampton 3-0 at the London Stadium a weekend ago. Manuel Pellegrini’s side played one of their better attacking games against the Saints with Marko Arnautovic bagging two goals.
The two sides met in December with Watford winning 2-0. Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu scored twice against West Ham to claim the victory.
Watford are unbeaten in 11 of their last 19 games against West Ham in all competitions dating back to 1999. Seven of those 11 unbeaten games ended in Watford wins. Thanks to their better historical record, Gracia will be confident of another victory.
West Ham have struggled on the road this term. They have obtained 18 points from 54 possible. The Hammers have scored just 18 of their 52 goals this season away from the London Stadium and average 0.9 goals per game.
Watford’s defence has kept four clean sheets at Vicarage Road. Gracia could have Miguel Britos fully fit after having wisdom teeth surgery.
Etienne Capoue may not make the team, however. He strained his groin prior to last weekend’s loss to Chelsea. Gracia may preserve Capoue for the FA Cup Final.
Defender Sebastian Prodl will definitely miss out due to a knee injury. Gracia will hope he can get the Austrian fully fit for the cup final.
Pellegrini could be without forward Felipe Anderson due to illness. The Brazilian will face a late fitness test for Sunday. Defender Declan Rice will also be subject to a late fitness test as he too is suffering from an illness.
Aaron Cresswell and Samir Nasri could make the team for the season finale as they recover from their respective injuries.
The last three Premier League games between Watford and West Ham have ended with under 2.5 goals scored. In two of those three matches, Watford won 2-0, including the last time they played at Vicarage Road.
Twelve of the last 19 games the two sides have played have finished with under 2.5 goals scored. Sunday’s game is destined for another low-scoring affair as Watford end West Ham’s winning streak.
Gracia’s side will claim victory as they prepare for the FA Cup Final.
