Can Fulham End Season on a High?

Can Fulham End Season on a High?
2125

The 2018/19 Premier League campaign comes to a close on Sunday and it will be a sad end to the season for some fans. The bulk of those attending the match between Fulham and Newcastle United at Craven Cottage will hoping to end the season on a high but it has ultimately been a disappointing campaign.

Fulham were relegated some time ago and have had very little to play for other than pride. However, they have responded well in the closing weeks of the season and trends show they have won three of their last four matches.

The wins have come at home against Everton and Cardiff City plus away at Bournemouth. Their last game ended in defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers but it was a narrow 1-0 loss and Fulham could easily have taken something from the match.

Overall performances this season have not been good enough but Fulham have shown signs of improvement under Scott Parker. They have won each of their last two games at home and have kept three clean sheets in their last four matches, conceding just a single goal.

The home fans will be cheering them on for the final time in the Premier League and the players should be motivated to give them a good send off before Championship football next season.

Newcastle United have been safe for some time and could potentially finish 13th this season should they win this match and Bournemouth lose at Crystal Palace. Trends show Newcastle United have lost one of their last four games and the defeat came last time out at the hands of Champions League finalists and title chasing Liverpool.

However, Newcastle gave a good account of themselves and can count themselves unlucky not to have taken a point from the match.

The main issues for Newcastle have come away from home and trends show they have won only three of their last twenty-three away games in all competitions. They are undefeated in their last two away Premier League matches but won only one of the last ten on the road.

Conceding goals has been a problem and Newcastle have kept one clean sheet in their last ten away Premier League games.

On to the team news and Fulham will be without the injured trio of Marcus Bettinelli, Lazar Markovic and Timothy Fosu-Mensah. Denis Odoi is doubtful which could mean a place in the starting XI for Cyrus Christie.

Newcastle travel to London without Florian Lejeune, Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron and DeAndre Yedlin who are injured. Fabian Schar is doubtful having come off in the game against Liverpool.

Fulham will be highly motivated to end the season with a win and this could prove the difference. They have improved towards the end of the season, especially defensively and we could see a narrow home win, with under 2.5 goals scored.
