Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim clash with Champions League qualification in sight

Borussia Monchengladbach host Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon with both teams gunning for Champions League qualification.

Manager Dieter Hecking has seen his Borussia Monchengladbach team fall off the pace in recent weeks losing back to back games. The Foals are still just three points off of fourth-place Eintracht Frankfurt in the race for Champions League qualification.

Hoffenheim sit one point behind Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga table. The Blues are seventh and in an intense battle for Europe with three games to go.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann would love nothing more than to seal a second straight Champions League qualification place before leaving in the summer for RB Leipzig.

Despite sitting fifth and on the cusps of the top four, Borussia Monchengladbach have been poor in their last six matches. The Foals have won just once in their last six games while being outscored 8-5 by their opponents.

Embarrassingly, Borussia Monchengladbach lost to 16th-place Stuttgart last weekend, 1-0. It was just the sixth win of the season for Stuttgart. Hecking needs to turn things around this weekend or the Foals may drop out of the top six by the end of the season.

In contrast, Hoffenheim have won four of their last five games. They did lose last weekend to Wolfsburg, 4-1, as the Wolves entered the race for the final Champions League qualification place.

Five of the last eight games between Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim in all competitions ended in draws. The two clubs played out a nil-nil draw back in December as neither team could find a way through to goal.

Borussia Monchengladbach do not have home form on their side. The Foals are winless in their last six games at Borussia Park with four of those matches ending in defeat. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim have won back to back away fixtures outscoring their opponents 9-2.

Hecking will be without suspended player Christoph Kramer. His absence is a big blow for the Foals.

Borussia Monchengladbach forward Thorgan Hazard, who is linked with a move away from the club in the summer, hasn’t scored since December. His poor form has been one reason the Foals have been dreadful of late.

Hoffenheim will be without forward Joelinton, but Nagelsmann will have Kerem Demirbary back from suspension.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s form has been awful over their last six games and that poor form is set to continue on Saturday. The two sides will put goals into the back of the net, but Hoffenheim will come out victorious in this one.

Hoffenheim will pick up an important win as over 2.5 goals go into the back of the net.
