Bristol City and Derby County to both score in play-off showdown
2807
Next up is a crucial clash between Bristol City and Derby County with both teams looking for all three points here as they search for a top six finish.
Bristol City dropped down to 8th place following a 2-0 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday on Easter Monday and this became Bristol City’s third league match withiout a win as Lee Johnson’s side have dropped the pace at just about the worst time possible.
An earlier 2-1 defeat away at Aston Villa was followed by a disappointing point at home with strugglers Reading in a 1-1 draw, but The Robins now return to Ashton Gate for this important clash against play-off candidates, Derby County.
Home form has been pretty steady for Bristol City who have suffered just two defeats out of their last 13 matches on home turf which were to Birmingham City and Leeds United, but they’ve since picked up points in draws with Ipswich Town, Wigan Athletic and Reading and recorded a 3-2 win against 4th placed West Brom.
Interestingly, 14 of their 22 home matches have seen both teams score.
Derby County already occupy a position in the play-off pack as The Rams sit in 6th place but they’ll be more than aware of the teams chasing behind them such as Middlesbrough, today’s opponents, Bristol City, as well as Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday who are making a late surge for a top six finish.
Derby County head into this crucial clash in the west country on the back of a tense 2-0 home win over QPR but it was far from convincing for Frank Lampard’s team as they needed a rather fortunate penalty decision to break the deadlock.
Derby have lost just once out of their last nine matches overall which was a 2-0 loss at Blackburn Rovers, but it’s been The Rams’ solid results at Pride Park which has elevated them into the play-off pack.
Results away from home have been poor by comparison as the visitors have failed to win any of their last eight matches on their travels which include defeats at Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and the aforementioned Blackburn Rovers.
Derby can ill afford another defeat here, but although they may not take all three points, they posses dangerous goal threats - 13 of their 21 away matches have seen both teams score.
With both Bristol City and Derby County going for the win, both teams to score looks a likely outcome here.
