Cardiff Battle Drop Against Fulham

Cardiff Battle Drop Against Fulham
2686

There are still issues to be decided at both the top and bottom of the Premier League this season.  While much of the focus is on the title and top four, the relegation battle is huge and the final relegation place is still to be confirmed.

As thing stand, Cardiff City are in 18th place, 3 points behind 17th place Brighton and Hove Albion.  The Bluebirds need to win all three of their remaining games to have any chance of staying up, starting with their match at Fulham on Saturday.

Fulham have enjoyed a mini revival towards the end of the season and come into this match having won their last two games. They have defeated Everton at home 2-0 and Bournemouth away 1-0, both of which were good and unexpected results.

That means Fulham will be approaching this game with plenty of confidence and will feel they have the beating of a team one place above them in the league.  Trends show Fulham have picked up wins against teams in the bottom half of the table including Burnley, Southampton, Huddersfield Town and Brighton.

However, they have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven home Premier League matches, conceding 2 or more goals in six of those seven games.

Cardiff City were up against it on Sunday as they played host to title challengers Liverpool. They held on to a 0-0 draw into the second half but conceded from a corner before fouling Mohamed Salah in the box and losing the game 2-0.

It wasn’t a bad performance from Cardiff City and they had a great chance to equalise from a corner before conceding the second goal, so expect to see plenty of fight from them in this match.

Trends show Cardiff City have won only two of their last nine games, with the wins coming at home against West Ham United and away to Brighton.  They have managed to pick up a few wins away from home in the Premier League this season, taking maximum points at Leicester City, Southampton and Brighton but have lost twelve on the road.

Cardiff City have kept one clean sheet in their last seven away league games and have failed to score in three of their last four.

Team news and Fulham are without Marcus Bettinelli and have doubts over the fitness of Timothy Fosu-Mensah.  The goals of Aleksandar Mitrovic have been important this season and the Serbian international will start up-front.

Cardiff City have Callum Paterson, Souleymane Bamba and Matthew Connolly all out for the rest of the season.  Harry Arter and Jazz Richards are being assessed on a daily basis and could make the squad.

Fulham have nothing to play for but their last two results suggest they could finish on a high.  Cardiff City are under pressure to win this match but may find they come up short in what has the makings of a thrilling game.
