Chelsea to get back to winning ways against Burnley

Chelsea host Burnley on Monday night at Stamford Bridge as they seek a victory and return to the Premier League top four.

The Blues are fifth due to goal difference, but could finish the weekend in the top four if they win and other results go their way.

Burnley are 14th after a three-match winning streak moved them away from the bottom three. Sean Dyche’s team is now eight points above the relegation zone with four matches to play.

The Clarets are undefeated in four of their last six matches away from Turf Moor with wins over Brighton and Bournemouth. Chelsea will be a far tougher task than those two sides, however.

Chelsea have lost just once in their last 10 matches against Burnley. That loss came in the 2017-18 season as Burnley shocked the Blues 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.

In their previous meeting this season, Chelsea ran over the Clarets 4-0 at Turf Moor. Alvaro Morata, Ross Barkley, Willian, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were all on the score sheet for Chelsea.

Manager Maurizio Sarri is feeling the pressure at Stamford Bridge despite leading the Blues to the Europa League semifinals. Rumours have swirled that Sarri will be dismissed in the summer.

Sarri is without centre-back Antonio Rudiger. The defender may be back for Chelsea’s clash with Manchester United in late April but is still suffering from a knee injury picked up last weekend against Liverpool.

According to reports, Chelsea are unhappy with striker Gonzalo Higuain’s play and won’t pursue signing him in the summer if they get around their current transfer ban.

Higuain may not play a part in the game as fellow attacker Olivier Giroud continues scoring goals in the Europa League. Sarri chose to play Eden Hazard as a false-9 against Liverpool and could do the same once more.

Burnley still have several players out with injuries. Phil Bardsley, Peter Crouch, Steven Defour, and Aaron Lennon are all on the injured list at Turf Moor. Only Bardsley is listed as a possibility.

Chelsea are undefeated in their last six home matches. Five of those six fixtures have ended in victory. The Blues have conceded just two goals during that six-game span.

Sarri’s team are tied with Liverpool for conceding the fewest home goals in the Premier League this term (10).

Burnley have conceded the fourth most goals away from home (32). They will once again concede scores as Chelsea pick up a win at home.

The Blues will strengthen their top four push with another win over Burnley. The fixture should see over 2.5 goals as Chelsea roll to victory.
