Can Huddersfield Finish Off the Bottom?

Can Huddersfield Finish Off the Bottom?
2270

We have known the fate of Huddersfield Town for some time as they have already been relegated to the Championship for next season.  However, there is still a chance they could finish above Fulham in the table and at least move off the bottom before the end of the campaign.

If they are to do that, Huddersfield will need to win their match on the weekend as they host Watford at the John Smith's Stadium.

It has been a hugely disappointing season for Huddersfield, who avoided the drop last season but have struggled badly during the 2018/19 campaign. They have won only three of their thirty-four Premier League matches this season and have lost each of their last six games.

Trends show that Huddersfield have suffered defeat in twenty of their last twenty-two matches in all competitions and they have failed to score a goal in ten of their last fourteen games in all competitions, which is a bad record.

Home form in the Premier League shows just one win and nine defeats in their last ten matches. Many of the defeats have come against teams Huddersfield would have been hoping to beat including Brighton and Hove Albion, Newcastle United, Southampton and Burnley.

Huddersfield have conceded 2 or more goals in six of their last eight home Premier League games.

Watford lost 1-0 at home to Champions League chasing Arsenal on Monday night but it could have been so different for the Hornets.  A bizarre goal saw them fall behind and they were also reduced to ten men as Troy Deeney was sent off.  However, Watford played well and deserved to take something from the match.

That result was Watford’s second defeat in five games but they won what they would consider to be the most important of those five matches, the FA Cup semi-final against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Trends show Watford have lost each of their last three away games in all competitions and have won only one of their last six on the road in the Premier League. Both teams have scored in six of their last seven in all competition.

Looking ahead to the team news and Huddersfield have doubts over the fitness of Isaac Mbenza, Laurent Depoitre and Philip Billing.  Adama Diakhaby is also struggling to be fit.

Watford will be without the suspended Troy Deeney and that could mean a place in attack for Isaac Success.  The Hornets have doubts over several players including Gerard Deulofeu, Issac Success, Jose Holebas and Kiko Femenia.

Despite losing to Arsenal last time out, Watford played well and know a similar performance here should be good enough to take maximum points.  A rare clean sheet is also a possibility.
