Wolverhampton Wanderers must pick themselves up after their colossal collapse in last weekend’s FA Cup semifinal against Watford. Wolves conceded two goals in the final 11 minutes to allow Watford to force extra-time.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team could not corral Watford as Gerard Deulofeu scored a second goal in the overtime period to send Wolves crashing out.

Southampton are five points above the bottom three. The Saints fell to a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in their last Premier League match.

Ralph Hassenhuttl’s team looked good for a point, but Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah found the back of the net in the final 10 minutes before Jordan Henderson added a third.

Wolverhampton Wanderers defeated Southampton in their previous meeting this season, 2-0. Santo’s team left it late scoring two goals in the final 11 minutes through Ivan Cavaleiro and Jonny.

The clubs met in the 2017-18 Carabao Cup with Wolverhampton Wanderers picking up the win 2-0. Prior to those two meetings, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton had not been in the same division since 2009.

Southampton will need to corral Wolves’ striker Raul Jimenez. The Mexican international has scored 16 goals in 38 games in all competitions. Prior to their FA Cup semifinal, Wolves made Jimenez’s loan deal permanent paying Benfica £30 million.

Hassenhuttl will be without midfielder Mario Lemina due to an abdominal injury. Striker Michael Obafemi will join him on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem.

Southampton will have leading scorer Danny Ings back in the team. Ings was left out of the team against Liverpool due to being on-loan from the league leaders. The striker has tallied seven goals as Southampton have struggled in the final third.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have no new injuries as they head to St. Mary’s. Santo could rotate his side after playing 120 minutes of high intensity cup football last Sunday.

Santo must get his team up for its trip to the south coast. Wolverhampton Wanderers can still qualify for the Europa League with a seventh-place finish and Manchester City FA Cup Final win.

Wolves are in eighth place due to goal difference. They need a strong performance in front of goal to win and overtake Leicester City for seventh place.

Both sides have a lot at stake on Saturday, but Wolverhampton’s quality will rise to the top. Santo’s team will rebound from last weekend’s collapse and strengthen their chances of European qualification.

Goals will fly in at St. Mary’s as these sides combine for more than 2.5 goals scored.
