Bristol City look for three on the trot against Wigan
2429

Bristol City have seen their fortunes take a change for the better in recent matches as The Robins have got their play-off hopes back on track with back-to-back wins against Sheffield United and Middlesbrough.

These recent and much-needed wins have helped lift Lee Johnson’s side back into play-off contention as the hosts sit in 5th place ahead of the visit from 20th placed Wigan Athletic, but they’ll need to continue their revival at Ashton Gate this Saturday.

Prior to these wins, Bristol City had endured a five match sequence without a win in the Championship as The Robins had suffered defeats to Norwich City, Birmingham City and Leeds United as well as points against Preston North End and Ipswich Town.

What’s more impressive is that Bristol City won both of these matches away from home, while at Ashton Gate they’ve now gone three matches without a win on home turf, so the hosts will be keen to set the record straight here.

Bristol City possess some key attacking threats in the shape of Diedhiou (11 goals), Weimann (9 goals) and Paterson (4 goals) and they look set to create chances against Wigan in this clash too.

Wigan Athletic have also revived their fortunes in recent times after they registered a 5-2 home win over Bolton Wanderers along with a point against Brentford in a 0-0 draw but both of these more positive results were achieved at their DW Stadium.

Wigan had previously suffered three defeats on the trot away from home with losses incurred at Derby County, Reading and Blackburn Rovers, and The Latics have managed just two league wins from their last 12 matches overall in the second tier.

To make matters worse, Wigan have recorded just one away win all season and have now gone 17 away matches without success on their travels, which includes seven defeats from their last nine matches on the road.

Wigan have failed to score in 9 of their 19 away matches so far this season and this lack of firepower could see Paul Cook’s side on the losing side again on Saturday afternoon against a rejuvenated Bristol City outfit who have kick-started their play-off ambitions.

This could be a 2-0 home win for Bristol City.
