Napoli to add to Empoli’s relegation fears
2658

On Wednesday evening, Empoli host Napoli in Serie A, in a match that could prove vital in the home sides fight against relegation.

Empoli are currently two points adrift from safety, so a victory would move them out of the drop zone to the safety of 17th place. However, a run of just two wins in their last ten league outings has hampered the home sides chances of beating the drop.

Last time out in Serie A, Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat against Juventus. The defeat was their third in five league games.

Empoli’s recent league outings have been packed with goals, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six league matches.

The home side has a decent recent home record in the Italian top-flight, as they have lost just once in their last six Serie A outings on home soil. The fact that Empoli have scored at least two goals in their last four home matches in Serie A has contributed to their last five home matches producing over 2.5 goals.

Napoli heads into this clash on the back of two straight league wins over Udinese and last time out Roma. The visitors are second in Serie A but are a massive 15 points behind perennial champions Juventus in the fight for the Scudetto.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are now five games unbeaten on their travels in Serie A, having recorded two wins and two draws. Rather unusually for Napoli, their recent away games have been low scoring in the Italian top-flight, as five of their last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Napoli have a good recent record against Empoli, winning the last four encounters with the home side, while also scoring at least two goals in each victory.

Forebet predicts that Napoli will record a victory in a high scoring game, which would do the home sides chances of beating the drop no favours.
