Huge Champions League Night in Turin

Huge Champions League Night in Turin
5268

The remaining Champions League round of 16 ties will be concluded this week and we have a thrilling night in store at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday as Juventus host Atletico Madrid.

This is the second leg of the tie and Atletico Madrid hold the advantage from the first leg having won 2-0 on home soil.  They know an away goal could be key in this game but for Juventus, a clean sheet is surely a must if they want to progress in the competition this season.

Juventus recorded a good 4-1 win over Udinese of Friday night in Serie A as they extended their lead over Napoli at the top of the table. It will take a big collapse for them not to win the league again this season in Italy, so the Champions league is now a priority.

Overall form is good and Juventus have won five of their last six matches.  However, the one game in that run they failed to win was the 2-0 loss at Atletico Madrid in the first leg of this tie.

Trends show Juventus have won nine and drawn one of their last ten matches at home in all competitions with the only defeat in their last twenty-two coming against Manchester United in the Champions League.

Home form in the Champions League has been inconsistent recently, with just two wins from their last six.  Juventus have conceded 2 or more goals in three of their last five home Champions League games.

Atletico Madrid remained on course to finish second in La Liga this season with a 1-0 home win over Leganes on the weekend. That win means they have won each of their last five matches in all competitions and appear to be coming into good form at the right time.

Diego Simeone’s team have been tough to beat away from home, losing only one of their last eleven games in all competitions.  They have also been strong on the road in the Champions league and have lost one of their last six away matches.

There has been just one win during that run of games but four draws and that’s all Atletico Madrid require to progress to the quarter-final.  Three of those six games have ended in a 0-0 draw and they would be more than happy with a repeat of that result.

Team news and Juventus are without the suspended Alex Sandro at left-back plus Sami Khedira, Douglas Costa and Juan Cuadrado are injured.  They also have doubts over Andrea Barzagli and Mattia De Sciglio.

Atletico Madrid have two players suspended and Thomas Partey and Diego Costa will miss out.  Diego Godin and Filipe are doubts, with the former being a big miss should he fail to make it.

Much could rest on the condition of Diego Godin going into this game.  If the Atletico Madrid defender is fit, you feel they could make it tough for Juventus and even though they may end up losing the game narrowly, will still qualify for the next round on aggregate.
