Brentford v QPR - Match Preview
Brentford entertain QPR in an all-London affair at Griffin Park where Brentford will be looking to continue their recent impressive sequence of results on home turf, having won their last four league matches on the trot in their own backyard.
Despite suffering back-to-back defeats away from home at Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, Brentford have built up momentum at home with wins over Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Hull City amidst an overall home record that stands at W10 D3 L4 scored 37 conceded 19 which is easily the best record at home in the lower half of the Championship.
Indeed, it’s only been Brentford’s pretty ordinary results away form home that have prevented The Bees from making a serious challenge for a play-off spot, but they’ll no doubt fancy their chances of claiming all three points here against an ordinary looking QPR outfit.
The hosts possess some very dangerous attacking personnel with midfielder Canos (5 goals) supporting the likes of forwards Maupay (19 goals), Watkins (9 goals) and Benrahma (7 goals), the latter scoring a hat-trick against Hull City recently.
QPR finally ended their winning drought during the week when they stopped the rot of seven league defeats on the trot with a desperately needed 1-0 home win over automatic promotion contenders, Leeds United, at Loftus Road which also handed manager Steve McClaren a stay of execution.
In contrast to Hull City, QPR have transformed from being possible play-off contenders to lower half dwellers of the Championship thanks to this horrific seven-match losing streak, but while the win over Leeds United was welcome respite from their string of losses, QPR face a very tough trip to face Brentford this Saturday.
QPR’s task is made even harder by the fact that they’ve lost their last four away matches on the trot with losses incurred at Sheffield United, Wigan Athletic, Bristol City and Middlesbrough with The R’s scoring just 2 goals in these last four defeats
When facing a free-scoring side such as Brentford, clean sheets on the road are imperative and QPR have kept four out of their 17 away matches to date - but only one in their last 10 matches on their travels which could spell further trouble for the visitors here.
Brentford are on a roll at the moment at Griffin Park and it’s hard to see past a Brentford win here against an ordinary travelling QPR outfit.
