Leicester City and Crystal Palace to play low scoring game
Leicester City and Crystal Palace sit 12th and 13th in the Premier League table, respectively. The Foxes have continued their inconsistent form in recent weeks losing back to back games to Manchester United and Tottenham.
Crystal Palace will travel to Leicester feeling confident. The Eagles are in the last-eight of the FA Cup and are unbeaten in their last three Premier League games.
Three points separate Crystal Palace and the relegation zone, but with their recent improved form, they have the opportunity to further distance themselves from the drop against Leicester. Roy Hodgson’s team has won two and drawn one in their last four league matches. They outscored their opponents 9-7 during that time with two of those games coming against Manchester City and Liverpool. Despite their scoring flurry against the league leaders, Crystal Palace have struggled in front of goal. They have recorded 27 goals which is the fifth worst total in the league.
Leicester City manager Claude Puel remains under fire at the King Power Stadium. His team has scored 31 goals while conceding 34. Leicester have failed to contend for a top six place despite their summer signing of highly rated midfielder James Maddison. The Englishman has five goals and four assists this term, but he hasn’t scored a goal in his last 11 games. He has tallied two assists in that time, but for all the praise, Maddison’s goal stats have not been good enough to make up for last summer’s sale of Riyad Mahrez.
The Foxes have been dreadful at home this season. They have lost their last three home matches by a combined score of 4-1. Twice they were held to clean sheets.
Crystal Palace have recorded three wins from their last six meetings with Leicester. The Foxes have gained two wins and a draw in that timeframe. The Eagles have outscored Leicester 12-6. Their previous meeting this term ended in a 1-0 home win for Crystal Palace.
Leicester’s last three games against Crystal Palace have been dreadful. They lost all three games and did not score a goal. Meanwhile Crystal Palace scored nine times in that three-match run.
Saturday’s game will see a Leicester side desperate to win. They will put in a better performance than their recent results have indicated. Crystal Palace have an FA Cup quarterfinal match against Watford coming up and will have one eye on that fixture. The two clubs will finish in a low scoring 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium.
