Leeds United v Swansea City - Match Preview
After the sort of disappointing run of results that Leeds United have had to endure in recent weeks, their last-gasp equaliser away at Middlesbrough on Saturday lunchtime at the Riverside Stadium must have felt like they’d taken all three points.
Leeds United will now be hoping they can transfer some of this positive spirit into Wednesday night’s clash with Swansea City as the hosts look to return to winning ways at Elland Road and cling onto second place in the Championship.
That stoppage time equaliser at Middlesbrough could well spark Leeds back into life as the hosts had suffered recent defeats to Norwich City and Stoke City in recent times, although they’ve managed to hang onto the other automatic promotion spot by the skin of their teeth and wins against Derby County and Rotherham United.
Although Leeds have lost to Hull City and the aforementioned Norwich City in recent games, the hosts still possess a decent home record of 9-3-3 24/13 which also includes wins against Bristol City, Reading, QPR, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County.
The hosts boast attacking riches in the shape of forwards Roofe (14 goals) and Alioski (5 goals) along with creative midfielders Hernandez and Klich who have not only provided 11 and 6 assists respectively, but they’ve also chipped in with 7 goals apiece too.
Swansea City registered a narrow 1-0 home win over Millwall at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday which extended their unbeaten run at home to four league matches, while the visitors have now lost just once in their last seven matches overall in the Championship.
However, Swansea’s results away from home have seen mixed returns as The Swans have recorded wins at Brentford and Reading but have also been on the end of losses at Hull City and Bristol City - the latter two teams being in the top half of the division.
Indeed, take it a step further and you’ll find that only one of Swansea’s five away wins this season have been against top half opposition, which was an opening day 2-1 win at Sheffield United.
Swansea’s other four wins on the road have been at 20th placed Millwall, 23rd placed Bolton Wanderers, 18th placed Brentford and 22nd placed Reading.
Graham Potter’s side may well therefore struggle against a Leeds United outfit who will feel they have a point to prove at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
