The 2018/19 Coupe de France has reached the Round of 16 stage having been played from back in September 2018.  The top teams do not enter the draw until the Round of 64 stage but have played two matches to reach the current round.

There are some teams remaining from the lower tiers of the French league but on Thursday 7th February we have an all Ligue 1 clash to look forward to between Guingamp and Lyon at the Stade du Roudourou.

Guingamp come into this match having defeated Monaco on penalties following a 2-2 draw last Tuesday in the Coupe de la Ligue to reach the final.  They did not play a league game on the weekend so that was their last competitive match.

Ligue 1 form is awful and Guingamp find themselves sitting bottom of the table but they have progressed through the cup competitions.  Having lost 9-0 at Paris Saint-Germain in the league on the 19th January, Guingamp have won two cup matches, one in the Coupe de France and the other highlighted above.

Both cup wins went into extra-time and Guingamp have won each of their last five cup games but have won just two league games over the same period.

Home form shows Guingamp have won just one of their last fourteen competitive matches inside 90 minutes and that was the recent league win over Rennes. Guingamp have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five home games in all competitions.

Lyon produced a great performance in mid-week to defeat the current Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 at home.  Not only was it a good result for Lyon it felt like a good result for French football as PSG’s dominant run came to an end.

Trends show Lyon are undefeated in their last six games in all competitions and have lost just one of their last twelve, making them tough to beat.

You must go back to the 7th October to find the last time Lyon lost an away match and that was at the hands of the champions in Ligue 1.  Since then they have won seven and drawn five of their twelve away matches which is a strong record.

Lyon have scored 2 or more goals in twelve of their last sixteen away games and they have the players in attack to hurt Guingamp.

Team news and Guingamp could be without Denis Petric and Nicolas Benezet who are both struggling with injury.

Rafael da Silva and Amine Gouiri are both long term absentees for Lyon and they also have doubts over the fitness of Ousseynou Ndiaye.

This is match which Lyon will expect to win and they have the attacking talent to take the game away from Guingamp.  The hosts have been good in the cups this season but their run could be about to come to an end with Lyon scoring 2 or more goals.
