The Premier League action continues on Wednesday this week and one of the earlier kick-offs is a game between Southampton and Crystal Palace at St Marys Stadium.
Southampton begin the week sitting in 15th place, 3 points clear of the relegation zone. A win could be good enough to move them up one place in the table. Crystal Palace have the same number of points as the hosts but are one place above them due to goal difference. A win would give them a 3 point cushion.
The Saints come into this match having had a rest on the weekend. Their shock exit at home to Derby County in the FA Cup means they did not play on the weekend and their last game was the week before, when they defeated Everton 2-1 at home.
That was a good result and trends show Southampton are undefeated in their last three matches in the Premier League. There was a good 0-0 draw at Chelsea followed by a win at Leicester City ahead of the victory over Everton.
However, Southampton have lost two of their last three Premier League games at home. The defeats came against West Ham United and Manchester City, with the former being the most disappointing result.
Trends show there have been over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine games in all competitions and both teams have scored in each of those eight matches.
Crystal Palace produced a very good performance to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the FA Cup on the weekend. It was a good win having come so close to getting something from their previous match which was at Liverpool in the Premier League, only to fall just short.
The win over Spurs was the first in three games for Crystal Palace having lost to Liverpool and at home against Watford in the Premier League. Trends show Crystal Palace have not been in great form in the league and they have won only one of their last five games.
However, they have performed well in recent away matches and defeated Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers in two of their last three on the road. Crystal Palace have scored 2 or more goals in each of their last four away Premier League matches but have kept only one clean sheet in their last five.
Team news and Southampton have doubts over Matt Targett, Mario Lemina and Ryan Bertrand. Michael Obafemi is injured while Maya Yoshida is still on international duty with Japan.
Crystal Palace travel without Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey which means Julian Speroni is set to continue in goal. Connor Wickham made a successful return to the team in the FA Cup on the weekend buy may have to settle for place on the bench.
This should be an entertaining game with over 2.5 goals but Southampton will be well rested plus have home advantage and could take maximum points.
