The Premier League title race continues on Wednesday night as Liverpool welcome Leicester City to Anfield.

With Manchester City playing on Tuesday night, Liverpool will know what they need to do and may be able to extend their lead or keep it to 4 points.  Leicester City are hoping to at least maintain their place in the top half of the league and possibly move up to 7th place.

Liverpool did not play on the weekend having already been eliminated from the FA Cup by Wolverhampton Wanderers.  Their last match was in the Premier League on the 19th January and they struggled to overcome Crystal Palace at home.

It was a nervy afternoon for Liverpool but they came through to win the match 4-3 and that means they have won their last two games.  Having lost at Manchester City 2-1, Liverpool went down by the same score at Wolves in the FA Cup before responding with a 1-0 win at Brighton in the Premier League.

Trends show Liverpool have won fifteen of their last seventeen home Premier League matches and have won each of the last nine in all competitions. They are unbeaten in their last thirty at home in the Premier League and you must go back to back to April 2017 to find their last defeat.

Liverpool have scored 3 or more goals in each of their last four home Premier League matches but kept only one clean sheet in the last four.

Leicester City joined Liverpool in a watching brief on the weekend as they were eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round at the hands of Newport.  Their previous Premier League game ended in a 4-3 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City’s defending left an awful lot to be desired in that game.

Trends show Leicester City have lost four of their last five Premier League matches, winning just one which was away to Everton. Two of the defeats have some at home against Cardiff City and Southampton plus one at Wolves in the Premier League.

Leicester City have been defeated at half-time and full-time in each of their last three matches and they cannot afford to fall behind at Anfield because it will be extremely tough to come back.  Leicester City have scored a goal in twelve of their last thirteen away Premier League games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Liverpool have injury concerns at the back.  Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are injured while Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren are doubts.  James Milner is suspended.

Leicester City are hoping England international Harry Maguire is fit to start the match in defence.  Harvey Barnes and Demarai Gray are pushing for a starting place.

Leicester City have the ability to make things uncomfortable for Liverpool in this game but do not appear good enough in defence to get the job done.  Liverpool should win this game but it will not be easy, especially with injuries in defence.
