Celtic set to extend lead at the top with a win over the Saints

On Wednesday night, SPL champions Celtic host St Johnstone at Celtic Park, as the home side look to extend their lead at the top of the SPL.

Celtic are currently three points clear of Rangers and Kilmarnock in second and third place respectively in the Scottish Premier League.

The Hoops have been in good form of late in the Scottish Premiership, recording wins in five of their last six matches while scoring at least three goals in five of their league victories. In fact, Brendan Rodgers’ side has scored at least three goals in six of their last eight SPL matches.

The Hoops recent home form has been formidable, as they have won their last 11 home games in the Scottish top-flight. Celtic have been potent on home soil in SPL of late, scoring at least three goals in their last seven matches at Parkhead, while also keeping clean sheets in their last four home games in the league.

St Johnstone are currently sixth place in the SPL table. A victory would move the visitors up to fifth place in the Scottish top-flight table.

Tommy Wright’s side has been inconsistent of late in the SPL. However, a 2-0 defeat at Hearts last time out ended a three-game winning run for the Saints in the Premiership.

The visitor’s recent SPL games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last four league matches. A record of three clean sheets in their last four SPL games has contributed to those low scoring encounters.

St Johnstone have a strong recent away record in the SPL, winning six of their last seven matches on their travels. In fact, the aforementioned 2-0 defeat at Hearts ended a six-game winning run in away games in the SPL.

Forebet predicts that Celtic will record a victory in a high scoring game to aid their chances of retaining the SPL title.
