Benfica to sneak a win in Guimaraes

On Friday night, Vitoria Guimaraes host Benfica in the Primeira Liga, as the visitors look to make up ground on visitors Porto at the top of the table.
Vitoria Guimaraes are fifth place in the table, seven points outside the European spots in the Portuguese top-flight. The home side’s recent league form has been inconsistent of late, as they have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five league matches.
Last time out in the Portuguese top-flight, Guimaraes recorded a 1-0 win over Moreirense. However, the Eagles suffered a 1-0 defeat against Friday’s opponents in the cup.
Guimaraes are strong on home soil, as they are unbeaten in seven league matches, consisting of five wins and two draws. In fact, the home side has recorded four straight wins in the Primeira Liga.
Their recent home games in the Portuguese top-flight have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in ten of their last 11 matches.
Benfica are currently five points behind league leaders Porto at the top of the table. However, the leaders are playing earlier in the evening, so could extend their lead to eight points.
Benfica have won seven of their last eight matches in the Primeira Liga, including a 2-0 away win at Santa Clara last time out in the Portuguese top-flight.
Bruno Lage’s side has been in good form of late on their travels in the league, winning four of their last five matches. Benfica’s recent away league games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six matches on their travels.
Benfica have won their last seven matches against Vitoria Guimaraes in all competitions and they will be confident of another win in this clash.
