Following a weekend of FA Cup action, the Premier League returns this week and there are some great matches to enjoy.  On Saturday, some of the action focuses on the bottom of the table and one of the standout games is between Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff City begin the weekend one place outside the relegation zone, with 18 points to their name.  Huddersfield Town are bottom of the Premier League on 10 points and could be cut adrift if they fail to get something from this game.

Cardiff City suffered a humiliating exit at the hands of Gillingham in the FA Cup last weekend and will need to put that result behind them. However, prior to that defeat, Cardiff City lost 3-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and in truth, it could have been a lot more.

Neil Warnock will look back at their only win in their last six games in all competitions for inspiration and that came at Leicester City.  That win came away from home but trends show the Bluebirds have won four of their last seven home Premier League games.

While they have struggled against teams near the top of the table, Cardiff City have defeated Fulham, Brighton and Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton at home.  This suggests they have what it takes to win this game.  There have been over 2.5 goals scored in nine of Cardiff City’s last eleven home matches in all competitions.

Huddersfield are in big trouble at the bottom of the table and they did not last long in the FA Cup, going out 1-0 at Bristol City. Form in the Premier League has been poor and trends show Huddersfield Town have lost each of their last seven games.  Four of those defeats have come away from home at Bournemouth, Arsenal, Manchester United and perhaps crucially, Fulham.

If Huddersfield Town are to stay up this season, they need to start winning matches quickly but trends show they have won only three of their last twenty-eight away Premier League games and that suggests they are going to struggle to pick up points on the road.

Huddersfield Town have kept just one clean sheet away from home this season.

Team news and Cardiff City are still without the injured Kenneth Zahore.  Jazz Richards, Kadeem Harris, Danny Ward, Victor Camarasa and Harry Arter are all battling to be fit, with the latter two players expected to play some part in the game.

Huddersfield Town will be without the injured trio of Abdelhamid Sabiri, Aaron Mooy and Danny Williams.  Tommy Smith is doubtful but Christopher Schindler returns from suspension in defence.

Neither team are in particularly good form but Huddersfield Town’s poor away record makes Cardiff City favourites to win this game.  Expect the home team to attack and we could see over 2.5 goals scored.
