Rayo Vallecano will host Celta de Vigo on Friday in a match that could have relegation implications. Rayo sit 19th and three points from safety going into the weekend. Celta are 15th and just four points separate them with the drop zone. Ridiculously, Celta are just five points off of sixth place in La Liga.

Celta go into the away fixture looking to stop their three-match winless streak. They have lost their last two fixtures in La Liga to Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, respectively. Manager Miguel Cardoso has seen his team score just once in their last three games. Surprisingly, Celta have tallied the fourth most goals in La Liga this term (29). But their recent inability to score has cost them points. While they have tallied goals, Celta have also shipped them regularly. Cardoso’s defence has allowed 28 scores which is also the fourth most in La Liga.

Rayo are undefeated in their last three home matches including back to back wins in their two most recent games at the Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas. Manager Michel has the team playing well after a poor start to the season. Scoring has been in short supply for the team, however.

Just 18 goals have been scored, the league’s sixth lowest tally. Fifteen of those 18 goals scored by Rayo have been tallied between the 16th and 75th minute marks. Meanwhile, Rayo’s defence has conceded the third most La Liga goals with 32. The good news is Michel’s team is on the up thanks to back to back league wins.

The last six matches between Rayo and Celta have been dominated by the former. Rayo have won four of their last six games against Celta in all competitions. The games have been high scoring with five of those six matches ending with over two goals scored.

Home truly has been where the heart is for Rayo when playing Celta. They have won nine of their last 11 home matches against Celta in all competitions. Although six of Rayo’s last seven home matches against Celta have seen more than 2.5 goal scored, they have held the visitors to clean sheets in the last three games at the Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas.

Rayo are finally playing well and they will continue their great form against Celta on Friday night. Once again, a match between the two teams will feature more than 2.5 goals. Rayo will get the win and claw closer to the relegation zone exit.
