On Wednesday night, Real Madrid host Leganes in the Copa del Rey last 16 first leg at the Bernabeu. The European champions have endured a rollercoaster of a campaign and it is vital that they bounce back from defeat last time out against Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari is under major pressure following Los Blancos’ 2-0 home reverse against the men from San Sebastian last time out. Despite the FIFA World Club Cup recently, the home side has produced some poor results and displays of late.

This should be a comfortable game for the men from the capital. However, Leganes have previous of beating Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, having beaten them 2-1 in last season’s Copa del Rey.

Leganes victory is the only Copa del Rey match that Real Madrid have lost in nine outings. One interesting stat to note though is that Los Blancos have won just one of their last five Copa del Rey games at the Bernabeu.

Leganes are enduring a typical struggle of a season and currently occupy 16th place in La Liga. However, the minnows may see this game as a welcome break from their toils in the Spanish top-flight.

The visitors have failed to win in four matches in all competitions, but three of those encounters ended in draws. Their recent outings have also been low scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last five matches, including in a 1-0 win at Rayo Vallecano in the last round of this competition.

The visitors have a poor recent record in the Copa del Rey, despite that famous win at the Bernabeu last season, winning just three of their last nine games in the competition.

Forebet predicts that Real Madrid will recover from the defeat by Real Sociedad by sneaking a victory in a low scoring encounter.
