Burnley set for a narrow win over Barnsley

On Saturday lunchtime, Premier League strugglers Burnley host high-flying League One side Barnsley at Turf Moor in the FA Cup third round.

Burnley are currently 16th place in the Premier League table after a poor season so far. However, straight wins over West Ham and Huddersfield hint that the Clarets form is set to turn around. A cup tie against a relatively in-form lower league side is a potential banana skin for the side from Lancashire, though.

The Clarets have an inconsistent recent record in the FA Cup, but a record of two wins in their last six games is not a great one. They have also lost their last two games in the competition, including suffering a 1-0 home defeat against lower league Lincoln back in 2017.

However, the home side does have a decent home record in this competition, winning five of their last seven games in this competition at Turf Moor. The defeat against Lincoln ended a run of seven home games unbeaten in the FA Cup for the team from Lancashire.

Barnsley are currently in decent form in League One, as they currently fourth place in the table after a five-game unbeaten run. The Tykes recent games have been low scoring, though, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six matches in all competitions.

Barnsley do not have a great recent record in the FA Cup but have beaten Notts County and Southend United in the previous rounds of the competition. The victories are the Tykes only FA Cup wins in seven outings.

The Yorkshire side has an inconsistent recent record away from home in the FA Cup, winning just twice in six outings on their travels.

This clash has the classic makings of a potential cup shock. However, Forebet predicts that Burnley will record a narrow victory in a high scoring clash.
