Brighton Look to Build on Arsenal Draw
Having played on Boxing Day, the Premier League fixtures keep on coming and on Saturday the 29th December Brighton and Hove Albion host Everton at the American Express Community Stadium.
Brighton picked up a good point at home against Arsenal on Boxing Day and will be hoping to build on that result in this game. The Seagulls are in 13th place in the table and a win could see them close in on the top half of the Premier League.
Everton recorded a resounding win at Burnley in their Boxing Day game and will travel to Brighton in good spirits. The Toffees are in 8th place and could move up to 7th if other results go their way.
Brighton started the match against Arsenal on Wednesday in need of a good performance and result having lost each of their last three Premier League matches. There had been defeats at Burnley and Bournemouth plus a loss at home against Chelsea.
Having fallen 1-0 down early against the Gunners, Brighton forced their way back into the game and earned a well-deserved point in a 1-1 draw.
Home form shows Brighton have been tough to beat. Trends show they have lost only one of their last six Premier League games and there have been wins over West Ham, Wolves and Crystal Palace. Brighton have scored in each of their last eight home league games but have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four.
Everton recorded a fantastic 5-1 win at Burnley on Boxing Day and it was the perfect response following their own thrashing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park. Three unanswered goals in the space of 22 minutes was enough to the take the game away from the Clarets.
The result came as a relief to Marco Silva who was under pressure following the poor showing against Spurs. Not only was it a heavy defeat, the loss to Tottenham meant Everton had failed to win any of their five Premier League games prior to the win at Burnley.
Trends show Everton have been struggling defensively and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six Premier League matches. Away from home, both teams have scored in four of Everton’s last six league games.
Team news and Brighton still have doubts over the fitness of wide attacking players Jose Izquierdo and Alireza Jahanbakhsh. Despite those two players being their only potential absentees, Brighton have little room for manoeuvre in terms of rotation.
Everton have a fully fit squad from which to choose and having scored off the bench in the win at Burnley, Richarlison should be restored to the starting XI. Lucas Digne is expected to continue at left wing-back.
This is a game which should see both teams score considering their form defensively and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the spoils shared with a draw.
