Everton to rebound versus Newcastle

Everton are walking wounded after giving up a ridiculous 96th minute goal to Liverpool on Sunday. The loss continued Everton’s winless streak at Anfield as Jordan Pickford’s calamitous error allowed Reds striker Divock Origi to head home the winning goal.

The Toffees’ loss to Liverpool ended a three-match unbeaten run. Now, Everton return to Goodison Park ready to take on Newcastle.

Rafael Bentiez watched his team play poorly at hope against West Ham over the weekend. The Magpies were outclassed by the Hammers, losing 3-0. It ended a three-match unbeaten run for Newcastle. Benitez has done wonders at St. James’ Park although it is difficult to see. The manager has got results despite a lack of investment from owner Mike Ashley. The club could be sold in the coming months due to reports and the off-field issues cannot be helping players.

Newcastle’s record against Everton has been awful in their last nine meetings. Newcastle’s last Premier League win came all the way back in 2014 at St. James’ Park. Everton have won their last eight of nine games against the Magpies. Two of their last three meetings at Goodison have ended with over 2.5 goals scored. Defensively, Everton have been brilliant against Newcastle as they have kept five straight clean sheets. Everton have been drawing at halftime and winning at full-time in each of their last four home Premier League matches.

The Toffees have tallied 16 of 21 points possible at home and manager Marco Silva has watched his players register a +7-goal difference. The manager doesn’t have any new injuries or suspensions to worry about, and will be able to pick from a full complement of players. Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie will miss Wednesday’s trip to Everton due to suspension. He picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during Saturday’s loss to West Ham. Paul Dummett will be a gameday decision as he races to be fit for the game.

Sportsbooks have Everton listed as the favourite, but it could be a dangerous game for them following their Merseyside Derby loss. Newcastle are an uncanny team that has taken just six points from 18 on the road. Newcastle have won just once away while registering a –1-goal difference.

Silva’s team has played well at home and will pick up another massive three points. If Everton can sustain long-term form and have other results go their way, they could feasibly challenge for a top four place. It all starts on Wednesday night as the Toffees will defeat Newcastle at home.
