Huddersfield meet Brighton in massive six-point match

Huddersfield host Brighton on Saturday in a massive six-point match at the John Smith’s Stadium.

David Wagner’s Huddersfield have recently become difficult to defeat as they are undefeated in their last three games. Last weekend’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers took the club out of the relegation zone.

Now, two points separate them from the drop. Brighton are five points ahead of Huddersfield in the table. The Seagulls have blown hot and cold, and could still be sucked into a relegation fight. After winning three straight games, Brighton are now winless in their last three matches.

The Seagulls’ away form has been appalling. Just four points have been collected from a possible 21. Only one win has been registered while Brighton have lost five times on their travels. Chris Hughton’s team has struggled to find the back of the net scoring just five times while allowing 12 goals. Brighton need to improve their road play to distance themselves further from the relegation zone.

Huddesfield have been equally poor at home. The Terriers have colleceted five points from 21 while scoring a league low two goals. Those goals came in their two most recent home fixtures, a 1-0 win over Fulham and a 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Both clubs met in the Premier League last season and in the Championship before gaining promotion to the top-flight. There is plenty of recent history between them. Their last six matches in all competitions have ended with two wins apiece and two draws.

Huddersfield took four points from six against Brighton last season outscoring their opponents 3-1. The Terriers won at the John Smith’s Stadium, 2-1. These teams do not see a lot of goals scored against each other. Huddersfield and Brighton have tallied under 2.5 goals in eight of their last ten matches in all competitions. Expect the same on Saturday.

Key Brighton players Glenn Murray and Mat Ryan are suffering with injuries, but they are expected to play. Ryan suffered an ankle injury last weekend against Leicester while Murray has a thigh issue. Dale Stephens will also miss the match due to suspension.

Saturday’s game may not seem big looking at the table, but a positive result could be what keeps these teams from suffering relegation. Both have shown some form in the last few weeks. Neither will want to make a mistake and lose the match.

It should be cagey with Huddersfield and Brighton ending in a draw. A point apiece will strengthen both clubs’ survival chances.
