Can Cardiff City win back to back games?

Cardiff City travel to Everton in search of back to back wins for the first time this season. The Bluebirds are coming off of 2-1 win over Brighton and a win could propel them out of the bottom three for the first time this term.

Everton are comfortably in mid-table and are undefeated in five of their last six matches. Marco Silva’s team is just five points back of fifth place. A win could see them close the difference on Arsenal.

Everton have not lost to Cardiff in their last two Premier League meetings. Their previous games came in 2013-14 with the Toffees drawing nil-nil away before winning 2-1 at Goodison Park. Everton are a difficult team to beat at Goodison having won their last three home matches. They have the fifth best Premier League points total at home with 13 points from 18 possible.

Goal scoring has not been a problem in front of home support as Everton have tallied 12 strikes while conceding just six. Interestingly, Everton have been drawing at half time during their last three home matches before going on to win at full-time.

Cardiff’s road form has been woeful. Neil Warnock’s team has picked up just one point from a possible 15 away from the Cardiff City Stadium. Cardiff’s last three away matches have all ended in defeat. The Bluebirds did win their last match, but conceding goals is still a problem. Cardiff have allowed the second most Premier League scores with 25. Of those 25 goals conceded, 11 have come on the road. Meanwhile, they have scored a mere two goals while playing away from home.

There could be hope for Cardiff to get a result as Everton do have players struggling with injuries. Midfielders Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes withdrew from their respective national teams during the international break. Having both miss the international break was a blessing for Everton. Getting the two important players back to full health is important with the congested fixture list upcoming. Both could play a part on Saturday.

Everton’s Richarlison has recorded six of Everton’s 19 goals. The 21-year-old played for Brazil during the international break, but overall should return invigorated rather than tired. His goals have been sporadic and Everton need some more consistency from their talisman. Everton are heavy favourites and playing against Cardiff’s defence, Richarlison could find the back of the net once more.

The Toffees will pick up all three points against a poor road team. Cardiff just can’t win away from home and Everton will exploit their weaknesses for all three points.
