Sombre Leicester travel to Cardiff

Sombre Leicester travel to Cardiff

There are things which happen in life which make football seem irrelevant and last weekend there was a terrible disaster at Leicester City.  Following their match with West Ham United, the helicopter carrying owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others crashed and they tragically lost their lives.

Leicester’s League Cup match with Southampton was postponed in mid-week but the club have decided to go ahead with their trip to Cardiff City in the Premier League on Saturday. It sure to be an emotional afternoon at the Cardiff City Stadium as both teams try to win the points for very different reasons.

Cardiff City faced a tough trip to Liverpool last weekend and as expected, they came away from Anfield with nothing.  However, it was a decent performance from the Bluebirds despite the final score and they managed to find the back of the net in a 4-1 loss.

Prior to that defeat, Cardiff City beat Fulham 4-2 at home to register their first win of the Premier League season.  It was a huge boost to Neil Warnock and his players and they will be hoping to build on that success in this match.

Trends show Cardiff City have won only one of their last twelve games in all competitions and have lost seven of their last eight.  However, they have been entertaining to watch and Cardiff City have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Cardiff City have been poor defensively at home and have conceded 2 or more goals in each of their last five home games in all competitions.

Leicester City picked up a point in an entertaining 1-1 draw with West Ham United at the King Power Stadium last weekend.  However, the draw means they have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games having lost at home Everton and away to Arsenal.

You must go back to the end of September to find the last time Leicester City won a game and that came at Newcastle.  Claude Puel will be hoping for a similar result against a team at the bottom end of the table this weekend.

Trends show Leicester City have been struggling away from home in the Premier League recently.  The Foxes have won just one of their last eight away league games and six of those matches have ended in defeat.

There have been over 2.5 goals in fifteen of their last nineteen matches in all competitions.

Team news and Cardiff City are without the injured trio of Danny Ward, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Lee Peltier.  Joe Ralls serves the last of his three-match ban and Warnock may name the same starting XI which defeated Fulham.

Leicester City are without Matty James and Daniel Amartey, the latter of which suffered what looked like a nasty ankle injury last weekend.  Wes Morgan is available following suspension and could come back into central defence alongside Harry Maguire.

This is going to be an extremely tough match for the Leicester City players following the events of the past week.  The players will be determined to win all 3 points and if they can play to their full potential should come away from the Welsh capital with a win.
