Austria to record first Nations League win over Northern Ireland

On Thursday night, Austria and Northern Ireland go head-to-head, as both teams look for their maiden victory in the newly established Nations League.
Austria suffered a 1-0 defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina in their opening game of the Nations League. The defeat means that the home side has now lost two of their last three international games.
However, on the flip side, Austria have now also won eight of their last ten international outings, so the home side will be confident of returning to winning ways in this clash. The home side’s recent international games have been relatively high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last eight matches.
Austria have a good recent home record, losing just one of their last 11 games on home soil, while also recording victories in six of their last seven home matches. A key to Austria’s recent good home record has been their attacking threat, as they have scored at least two goals in five of their last seven home matches.
Northern Ireland have an inconsistent recent international record, although just two wins in nine outings is a poor return for Michael O’Neill’s team.
The visitors recorded a 3-0 home win over Israel last time out. However, prior to that, they suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Bosnia-Herzegovina in their Nations League opener. Northern Ireland’s latest matches have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five outings.
The visitors have a poor recent away record of late winning just two of their last nine games on their travels, while also failing to win in their last four away matches. O’Neill’s side has also failed to score in that four-game winless run.
