The German Bundesliga started a little later than many of the other major leagues in Europe this season.  With just 18 teams in the league, the clubs are afforded a little more breathing space but still a have a mid-week fixtures to fulfil.

The pick of the action comes at the Weserstadion on Tuesday night, as Werder Bremen host Hertha Berlin.

Both teams start this match with an unbeaten record as they attempt to stay with Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

Werder Bremen started their Bundesliga campaign with a 1-1 draw at home against Hannover.  Despite wanting to win the game, it was a decent start and the 2-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt the following week made it even better.

However, Werder Bremen were then held at home for the second time in succession this season as they conceded an injury time equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Nurnberg.  In an exciting match on the weekend, Werder Bremen defeated Augsburg 3-2 away from home, with Davvy Klaassen netting a 75th minute winner.

Trends show Werder Bremen are tough to beat at home and they are undefeated in their last fifteen home games in all competitions.  However, the last five of those matches have all ended in a draw and Werder Bremen need to start picking up wins on home soil If they want to maintain their good start to the season.

Hertha Berlin picked up a very good 3 points on the weekend as they defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 4-2 at home.  Despite going 1-0 down, Hertha Berlin fought back to open a 3-1 lead and scored a fourth goal on 73 minutes to secure the win.

That victory was Hertha Berlin’s third of the season, having previously defeated Nurnberg 1-0 at home and Schalke 2-0 away, which was a good result.  The only dropped points have come in a 2-2 draw at Wolfsburg,  during which Hertha Berlin conceded 2 goals in the last 4 minutes of the match.

Trends show Hertha Berlin have scored at least once in each of their last eleven competitive games and both teams have scored in six of their last eight.

Looking ahead to the team news and Werder Bremen have several players on the treatment table.  Fin Bartels, Yuya Osako, Stefanos Kapinos, Sebastian Langkamp and Aron Johannsson are among those struggling to be fit for the match.

Hertha Berlin have also had fitness problems at the start of the season.  Vladimir Darida, Mathew Leckie, Sidney Friede and Karim Rekik are all hoping to recover in time for the game.

This has the makings of being a very exciting game in the Bundesliga.  Both teams have been scoring and conceding goals this season and the match could easily end level, with both teams scoring.
