Bayern set to record win at Benfica in an entertaining clash

On Wednesday night, Benfica host Bayern Munich at the Estadio Da Luz, as both teams attempt to kick-off their Champions League campaigns with a victory.
Benfica heads into this clash unbeaten in four Champions league games after overcoming Fenerbahce and PAOK in the qualifying rounds to make it to the group stages.
Despite that recent good run of form, the Eagles have won just twice in their last 11 outings in Europe’s elite competition. In fact, prior to this season’s qualifying rounds, the Portuguese side were on a run of seven straight defeats in the Champions League.
The team from the Portuguese capital have an inconsistent recent home record in this competition, which a record of two home wins from seven outings illustrates perfectly.
Benfica’s recent home games in Europe have been tight affairs, as there have been under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six games, including their last four outings.
Bayern Munich have been perennial challengers for the Champions league crown in recent seasons. However, the Bavarians have failed to win the competition since 2013 when Die Roten defeated compatriots Dortmund in the final.
Rather unusually for Bayern in the Champions League, they are winless in three outings in the competition. However, the Bavarians have been hard to beat of late, suffering just one defeat in their last ten outings in Europe’s elite competition.
Bayern have a strong recent away record in the Champions league, as they are unbeaten in five games having recorded four wins in the process. The German giants have also been prolific on their travels of late in Europe’s elite competition, scoring at least two goals in their last five outings.
