Porto set to move to the top of the Primeira Liga

The fight for the Portuguese Primeira Liga title could take another twist on Monday night, as second-place Porto hosts relegation-threatened Vitoria Setubal at Estadio Do Dragao.

Porto heads into this clash a point behind league leaders Benfica, who have played a game more than the home side. A victory in this clash would put Sergio Conceicao’s side back in command at the top of the table.

The home sides form has actually been pretty inconsistent of late in the Portuguese top-flight. In fact, Porto have won three and lost two of their last five league games.

Last time out in the Primeira Liga, the home side recorded a potentially crucial 1-0 win at title-rivals Benfica. The result means that Porto’s last five league games have produced under 2.5 goals.

Porto have built their title challenge on good home form, winning their last eight home games in the league. The home side are also unbeaten on home soil in 33 games in the Portuguese top-flight.

At the bottom end of the table, Vitoria Setubal are just two points outside the relegation zone with a game in-hand on the bottom two teams. An unlikely win in this clash could prove vital in the fight for survival at such a late stage of the campaign.

The visitor’s recent form has not helped their survival chances though, as Jose Couceiro’s team have won just once in their last five games in the Primeira Liga. It is interesting to note that Setubal’s last five league games have seen both teams score.

Setubal have a poor recent away record. Despite picking up four points from their last two away games in the league, the visitors have won just one of their last 15 games on their travels in the Portuguese top-flight.

Porto are big favourites to win this clash and Forebet predicts that the home side will record a comfortable win to move to the top of the Primeira Liga table.
