Mainz and Freiburg set for draw in Bundesliga basement battle

Mainz and Freiburg set for draw in Bundesliga basement battle

On Monday night, Mainz host Freiburg at the OPEL Arena, as both sides look to move away from the Bundesliga bottom three.

Mainz are currently in the relegation play-off spot, three points behind the visitors who occupy 15th place. The home side are at least five points clear of Hamburg who are in the second relegation spot.

Sandro Schwarz’s side has hit a bad run of form at a terrible time, as the home side has won just once in their last ten games in the German top-flight. They have also failed to win in their last six outings in the Bundesliga.

Mainz’s recent Bundesliga games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven outings. A lack of goals scored has contributed to those low scoring games, as the home side has scored just once in their last five Bundesliga games.

A massive factor in Mainz slipping towards the bottom three has also been their home form, as Schwarz’s side have won just one of their last seven games on home soil in the Bundesliga.

Like the hosts, Freiburg’s recent form in the Bundesliga has been woeful. The visitors have failed to win in their last six outings in Germany’s top-flight while suffering four defeats from their last five league outings.

Another similarity to the home side is that Freiburg have struggled for goals in recent Bundesliga games, scoring just once in their last five league outings. Christian Streich’s team have also been poor at the other end of the pitch, conceding at least two goals in four of their last five league games.

The visitor’s record on the road has also hampered their attempts at staying clear of danger, as they have won just once in their last 17 away games in the Bundesliga. However, they have drawn five of their last seven games on the road in the German top-flight.

These two teams are well matched and Forebet predicts that this will be a tight game ending a draw, which would keep both teams in danger of having to play in the dreaded relegation play-off.
