Monaco set to consolidate position in the Champions League spot

On Wednesday night, Monaco visit Rennes in Ligue One, as the visitors look to consolidate their position in the Champions League spots.

Rennes are currently sixth-place in Ligue One. However, the home side are 15 points behind fourth-place Lyon, who occupy the last European spot, so are just playing for pride at this point. However, a top-six finish would not be a terrible result for Sabri Lamouchi’s side.

The home side are now six games unbeaten in Ligue One, having recorded four victories and two draws. Last time out they won 2-0 at Bordeaux.

Lamouchi’s side has been prolific in front of goal of late in Ligue One, scoring two or more goals in five of their last six outings in the French top-flight.

Rennes’ recent home record is a mixed one in Ligue One, as they have won two, drawn one and lost three of their last six league games on home soil.

Reigning champions Monaco are currently 17 points behind league leaders PSG, so Leonardo Jardim’s team’s priority is now to secure second spot and an automatic Champions League spot.

The team from the principality are currently second place, four points clear of third-place Marseille. A win would give the visitors a significant advantage in the race to secure second spot.

The visitors are 15 games unbeaten in Ligue One, having won six of their last seven games in the French top-flight. A key to that good run of form has been their attacking threat, as they have scored at least two goals in their last ten games in Ligue One.

Jardim’s side are also six games unbeaten on their travels in Ligue One, although three of their last five away games have finished all square.

Forebet predicts that Monaco will record a victory in a high scoring clash to enhance their chances of finishing in second place this season.
