Luton Aiming to Get Back to Winning Ways

Luton Aiming to Get Back to Winning Ways

There is plenty of club football to look forward to in England on the weekend and one of the most intriguing games comes in League Two where Luton Town host Barnet at Kenilworth Road.

Luton seemed odds on to win promotion a few weeks ago but things have changed slightly at the top of the table.  They are still in the second automatic promotion spot, 3 points behind leaders Accrington who have a game in hand.  With three teams going up automatically, Luton do not want to give the teams behind them any encouragement.

Barnet make the trip in desperate need of a win as they try to climb off the bottom of League Two. Two teams drop out of the football league and Barnet are 6 points adrift of safety.  The teams around them will believe Barnet will lose this match, so if they can get something from the game it would be a huge bonus.

Luton may be the team challenging at the top of the table in this game but their recent form has not been great.  Trends show they have lost just one of their last five League Two games and on the face of it, that seems a decent run of results.

However, Luton have failed to win any of those five matches, picking up four draws including the point in a 1-1 draw at Newport County last weekend.  The defeat came at home against Accrington, the only team above Luton in League Two but Luton also dropped points at Kenilworth Road against Cheltenham.

Luton have scored in each of their last eleven home league games but have conceded 8 goals in the last five.

Barnet lost 2-0 at home to Wycombe Wanderers last weekend and that result left them rooted to the bottom of the table.  Their form has been poor and trends show Barnet have won only two of their last sixteen League Two games and if they continue in the same way to the end of the season, they will go down.

Barnet have struggled to score goals this season, netting 34 times in thirty-eight matches.  Only Grimsby have a worse record and Barnet have scored just once in their last three League Two games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Luton should be close to full strength for this game.  Top scorer Jamie Collins should be fit to take his place in the starting XI for the hosts.

Barnet have struggled to settle on a consistent starting XI this season and manager Martin Allen could make more changes to the team from the one which lost at home to Wycombe last weekend.

Luton will see this match as the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways in their push for promotion and could claim maximum points by keeping a clean sheet.
