Huesca and Gijon set for draw in big promotion clash
On Monday night, Huesca and Sporting Gijon meet in the Spanish Segunda, as both teams look to enhance their prospects of automatic promotion to La Liga.
Huesca are currently top of the table, but they are only three points clear of third-place Cadiz in the race for automatic promotion. The home sides form has dipped of late in the Spanish second tier, as they have now failed to win in four league games, picking up two draws and suffering two defeats.
Their last two league games have ended in draws, last time out the league leaders drew 0-0 at Reus Deportiu. The game ended a run of high-scoring games for Huesca, as three of their previous four games have produced over 2.5 goals.
Rubi’s side are unbeaten in their last 25 home games in the Spanish second tier, winning eight of their last ten league outings on home soil.
Sporting Gijon currently occupy a play-off spot in the Segunda but are just four points behind Rayo Vallecano who occupy the second automatic promotion spot.
Gijon have hit form of late, winning four of their last five games in the Segunda, while also keeping clean sheets in their last five outings in the league. Last time out in the league, Sporting hammered Cultural Leonesa 4-0.
The visitors good recent defensive record has contributed to their being under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five league outings.
Gijon’s away form has hampered their bid for automatic promotion, as they have won just one of their last nine away games in the Segunda. However, that win was in their last away game in the league against Sevilla ll.
This game could be pivotal in the race for promotion to La Liga. Forebet predicts that game will end in a goalless draw, which is a result that will aid neither side’s chances of automatic promotion.
