Sporting to record big victory at Chaves

On Monday night, Chaves host Sporting Lisbon, as the visitors attempt to make up ground on the league’s top-two.
Chaves are enjoying a solid campaign and currently sit sixth place in the Primeira Liga table. Despite their lofty position in the Portuguese top-flight table, the home side’s recent form has been inconsistent of late.
In fact, Luis Castro’s side have now won just three of their last seven league games. Last time out in the league, the home side suffered a 2-0 defeat at Tondela. It was their third straight league game that has produced under 2.5 goals.
The low scoring games had followed five consecutive league clashes that had produced over 2.5 goals.
Chaves have lost just once in their last ten home games in the league, with that one defeat coming against league leaders Porto. The home side have been relatively prolific on home soil in the league of late, scoring two or more goals in three of their last four home games in the Primeira Liga.
Sporting heads into this game in desperate need of a victory to stay in the hunt for the title and the automatic Champions League spots.
The visitors currently occupy third-place and the Champions League qualifier spot. They are six points behind city rivals Benfica and eight points behind leaders Porto.
Last time out Jorge Jesus’ side suffered a 2-1 defeat against Porto, which was a massive blow to their slim hopes of winning the Portuguese league title.
Their recent league games have been relatively low scoring with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last eight outings in the Primeira Liga.
Sporting’s recent away record has been poor, as the visitors have won just one of their last five games on their travels in the top-flight.
