Magpies and Saints set to finish all square

Magpies and Saints set to finish all square

On Saturday afternoon, Newcastle hosts Southampton at St James Park in a game that could prove vital in the Premier League fight for survival.

Newcastle finds themselves 16th in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone. The Magpies are also only above the 17th place visitors by a point, so this game is massive for both sides.

Rafa Benitez’s side have won just one of their last seven outings in the top-flight. However, a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool last time out ended a four-game unbeaten run in the top-flight, comprising of three draws and a win.

The home side’s recent Premier League games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five top-flight games.

The north east side have struggled to win at home in the Premier League of late, winning just one of their last nine home games in the top-flight.

However, that one win was in their last home game in the league, in a 1-0 victory over Manchester United. The win means that the Magpies are now unbeaten in four home games in the league, albeit it with three of those games finishing in draws.

The visitor’s perilous position in the table is down to their poor recent form. The Saints have won just once in their last 16 top-flight games. However, they do like a draw, as five of their last seven league games have ended all square.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s side have also won just one of their last 11 away games in the league. However, they are currently on an unbeaten run of four games on their travels in the top-flight, having picked up one win and three draws from their last four away games.

This game could be a close one and Forebet predicts that these two teams will cancel each other out with the game finishing all square.
