The weekend action in the Bundesliga starts on Friday night and we have a mouth-watering match to look forward to as Hertha Berlin welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Olympiastadion.

Hertha Berlin looked like a team capable of challenging near the top of the Bundesliga earlier this season but have since dropped away. They come into this game in 11th place and even with a win, are unlikely to move far up the table.

Borussia Dortmund also started the season promisingly and looked set to push Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title.  However, they have also fallen off the pace and are now battling for a place in the Champions League.

Bundesliga action resumed after a winter break and Hertha Berlin started with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at relegation threatened Stuttgart.  This loss ended a four-match unbeaten run in all competitions during which Hertha Berlin picked up 7 points in the Bundesliga and a point in the Europa League.

The wins in the Bundesliga came at home to Hannover and away to RB Leipzig, the latter of which was an excellent result.

Recent home form in the Bundesliga has been a mixed bag and Hertha Berlin have won two and lost three of their last five games.  Each of these matches have seen plenty of goals and Hertha Berlin have been very entertaining to watch.

Trends show there have been over 2.5 goals scored in their last four home league games and Hertha Berlin have scored 2 goals or more in five of their last seven.  However, they have also conceded 2 or more in five of their last six at home.

Borussia Dortmund make the trip to the German capital having been held to a 0-0 draw at home by Wolfsburg last weekend.

That result means they won only two of their last thirteen competitive matches in all competitions.  In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund have won only two of their last eleven games and its easy to see why they have dropped so far behind Bayern Munich.

Trends show over 2.5 goals have been scored in eighteen of Borussia Dortmund’s last twenty-three games in all competitions and their 0-0 draw last weekend was a rare game featuring Peter Stoger’s team which did not have any goals.

Borussia Dortmund have scored 2 or more goals in five of their last seven away Bundesliga games but have also conceded 9 goals in their last five on the road.

Team News and Hertha Berlin could be without winger Alexander Esswein who has a cold.  Karim Rekik has a shin injury and Palko Dardai has back trouble, meaning both could miss out.

Borussia Dortmund have got a long injury list and the players expected to miss this match include Sebastian Rode, Max Philipp, Jacob Larsen, Marco Reus, Marcel Schmelzer and Raphael Guerreiro.

This has the makings of an exciting match and is the perfect way to start the Bundesliga this weekend.  Expect to see over 2.5 goals in a game which could either way.
