Chelsea and Arsenal to finish all square in the League Cup

Chelsea and Arsenal to finish all square in the League Cup

On Wednesday night, London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal meet at Stamford Bridge in the first leg semi-final of the League Cup.

Both teams head into the clash on the back of disappointing FA Cup results at the weekend. FA Cup holders exited the famous competition with a 4-2 defeat at Championship Nottingham Forest, while Chelsea produced a limp display to draw 0-0 against Championship Norwich.

These two teams met in their last Premier League outing at the Emirates Stadium last week in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Chelsea are in the better recent form of the two sides going into this clash, as the Blues have lost just one of their last 16 games in all competitions.

Antonio Conte’s side are also strong home soil, winning nine of their last ten games at Stamford Bridge in all competitions, while also maintaining an unbeaten record of 11 competitive games on home soil.

The Blues have seen off Nottingham Forest, Everton and Bournemouth to get to this stage of the competition, all three victories coming at Stamford Bridge.

The FA Cup defeat against Forest was Arsenal’s first defeat in ten games in all competitions. However, Arsene Wenger’s side had drawn five of those nine unbeaten games.

The Gunners recent games have been high scoring with four of their last five games producing over 2.5 goals in all competitions. Both teams have also scored in Arsenal’s last five outings.

Arsenal made it through to the last-four of this competition by beating Doncaster, Norwich and West Ham. However, all three wins were at the Emirates Stadium.

In fact, the Gunners last five games in the League Cup have been played on home soil. A trip to Chelsea will be a far more difficult challenge than what has come before.

Forebet predicts that this game will finish all square and the tie will be delicately balanced heading into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
