On Thursday night, Celta Vigo host La Liga leaders Barcelona in the last 16 first leg of the Copa del Rey.

Celta Vigo have endured mixed fortunes in La Liga this season and currently sit midtable in the Spanish top-flight. Their recent form has been inconsistent, but it is worth noting that Celta held the visitors to a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp in La Liga last month.

The home side’s recent home form has been decent, as they have won three of their last four games on home soil. However, a three-game winning run on home soil ended in their last home game with a 1-0 defeat against Villarreal.

Celta’s recent games have been relatively high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four games in all competition’s. The home side made it through to last 16 by beating Eibar 3-1 over two legs.

League leaders Barcelona will be massive favourites to win this tie over two legs, even if boss Ernesto Valverde decides to rotate his squad.

The Blaugrana heads into the game 25 games unbeaten in all competitions, having won their last four games in all competitions, scoring two or more goals in all four victories.

In fact, Celta were the last team to take anything from a game against Barcelona in any competition. Barcelona did manage to score two goals in that draw and the visitors have scored at least two goals in their last six games in all competitions.

Valverde’s team are 13 games unbeaten on their travels. Their last away defeat came against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup back in August.

Barcelona recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Real Murcia in the last round of this competition to set up this meeting.

Forebet predicts that Barcelona will record a comfortable victory in this clash and give themselves an advantage going into next week’s second leg.
