Levante Searching for Crucial Win

Prior to Christmas, those in charge of the fixture schedule in Spain have decided to spread round 17 of La Liga matches across five days, starting with a match between Levante and Leganes on Tuesday night.

The early scheduling of this match means Levante have played on Friday and then Tuesday, with Leganes having a full break between this and their previous fixture due to Real Madrid’s involvement in the World Club Championship.

However, Levante cannot allow the scheduling of games to become a problem if they are to avoid relegation this season and they start this match in 15th place, with 17 points from their sixteen games played.

This leaves them 5 points clear of Alaves, who occupy 18th place and 3 points behind 11th place Leganes, who have played one game less.

Trends show Levante have failed to win any of their previous five matches in all competitions and you must go back to the 19th November to find the last time they won a match, which was a 2-0 win at Las Palmas in La Liga.

League form shows Levante have won just one of their last eleven games and they struggled to pick up wins having won just three league games all season, less than any other team.

Having enjoyed a spell of nine games unbeaten at home in La Liga, a run which started last season and stretched into this campaign, they have failed to win any of their last five at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia, losing the last three.

Trends show Levante have conceded an average of 2.4 goals in their last five home league games.

Leganes travel to Levante for this game having had their match on the weekend postponed.  This means they last played on the 9th December in an away league match against Deportivo La Coruna, a match they lost 1-0.

The defeat to Deportivo La Coruna was disappointing considering the victory over Villarreal the previous week in La Liga and the 1-0 win over Real Valladolid in the Copa Del Rey.

In La Liga, Leganes have won only one of their last five matches, which was the victory against Villarreal.  There have been four defeats in those five games, with losses coming at Celta Vigo and Valencia in addition to the defeat at Deportivo La Coruna.  There was also a defeat at home against Barcelona.

Trends show Levante have lost each of their last four away league games, scoring just 1 goal and they have failed to score in their last three matches on the road.

Team news and Levante will be without the injured trio of Ivan Lopez, Alex Alegria and Roger Marti.  There are also doubts over Cheick Doukoure and Enis Barshi who have hamstring and muscle problems respectively.

Leganes have goalkeeper Jon Ander Serantes on the treatment table with a shoulder injury.  They also have doubts over Omar, Martin Mantovani, Darko Brasanac, Dimitrios Siovas and Ezequiel Munoz.

Leganes come into this match in the stronger position in the league but have been struggling to win games in recent weeks.  However, they have had plenty of time to prepare for this match and should come away with a point in a low scoring draw.
